The location is ideal for walking, with many excellent walks from the door. It is also very well placed for visiting Chatsworth House (8 miles away), or the famous plague village of Eyam (3 miles away), or Castleton and its caves (5 miles away).

Also within easy reach are Haddon Hall, the market town of Bakewell, Matlock and Matlock Bath, Buxton, and Sheffield.

A few yards up the road is the local pub (the highest in Derbyshire), and a mile down the road is the picturesque village of Foolow complete with ducks, pond and village pub.
