The cottage is located in Hartington,in the centre of the 'White Peak' - the limestone part of the Peak District, famous for its dales, rolling countryside and drys tone walls. the River Dove passes within a couple of hundred yards of the village and there is a footpath direct from the village through a gorgeous meadow to the river. Downstream along an excellent riverside path is Dovedale, the most famous natural attraction in the Peak District. A mile awayis Hartington Station, the track passing through the station has been converted into a 15 mile long cycle path, also much used particularly in winter by walkers. The Tissington Trail as it is called offers extensive views for much of its length, particularly either side of this former station.

Hartington is very much a 'honeypot' village' partially due to it being such a good base for walking with the consequence that despite only having 130 houses, there are two tea rooms, two excellent coaching inns, a nesagents, a delicatessen, a gift shop, a very famous cheese shop, a farm food shop and even a petrol station/garage, and therefore offers plenty to do, even for non-walkers. The geese pond is highly popular and much photographed.

In the grading process the cottage achieved an almost unheard of 100% for standards of housekeeping.

There are eleven highly personally information folders in the cottage, much praised by guests and tourist board inspectors, ensuring guests get the most out of their stay. the onwers go to considerable lengths to try to ensure that their guests take full advantage of this wonderful area.
