Local Attractions

Parwich, with its neat cottages has the feel of an estate village similar to Tissington, but it is a lot less popular with tourists for it lies somewhat off the beaten track. It is an attractive place with a peaceful atmosphere and some fine old buildings.

The village dates from Saxon times, though at nearby Roystone Grange the remains of a Roman farm have been discovered. The church is fairly grand for a small village and pretends to be Norman, but it is actually Victorian, give or take a few remnants of a much older Norman structure. It's not nearly as well restored as the church at nearby Alsop. The other principal building is the hall, built in 1747 and having an unusual brick facade, and this is surrounded by many pretty cottages dating from this period onwards. There is also a pub called the Sycamore Inn. The area around is pleasant, rolling limestone country - good for gentle walks.
